Inkutils 1.03 Readme
================================================================================
System Requirements:
--------------------
The Inkutils run on any PC with DOS 3.30 or later and 128K of available
DOS memory. Approximately 350K of free disk space is required.
Installation:
-------------
To install the Inkutils, type INSTALL (enter) then follow the on screen
prompts. After successful installation, you will need to add the Inkutils
directory to your PATH statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
Once the Inkutils are installed, type INKUTILS to view the user guide.
Description of the Inkutils:
----------------------------
The Inkutils are a suite of 11 DOS utilities:
* DEDIT - Description Editor
A full-screen coloured 4DOS/NDOS file description editor
which automatically scans the 4DOS/NDOS.INI file for ColorDir
and other settings, so that DEDIT uses the same configuration
you're already using. DEDIT can also import file lists into the
file descriptions - very useful if you regularly download files.
* CC - Cache Control
A control panel for the SmartDrv (or any compatible) disk cache.
You can change cache settings just by intuitive point and clicking
rather than using the less friendly command line switches.
CC is also DoubleSpace and DriveSpace aware.
* EE - Evaluate Expression
A calculator than can be used three ways: Command line calculator,
Desktop calculator or TSR popup calculator. The TSR calculator
can be loaded in as little as 1.5K of DOS memory.
* DD - Delete Directory
Allows a directory (and it's contents) to be deleted. Much more
friendly than DELTREE. DD displays directory summaries before
deleting. Allows directories to be 'protected' which stops DD
from being able to delete them.
* CE - Critical Error
Replaces the standard "Retry, Ignore, Fail or Abort" message
with a popup window that gives much more information on the error
that has occurred. Can be loaded in as little as 900 bytes of
DOS memory. Compatible with 4DOS and NDOS.
* TM - Text Mode
Allows various text modes (including any VESA text mode that
your video card supports) to be selected (TM can display the
modes that are available on your machine). It can also select
the largest text mode available on your machine automatically.
TM allows basic keyboard key repeat rates to be set. Ideal for
use in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
* LE - List Executables
Displays only the executable files (EXE, COM, BAT and, if you're
using 4DOS or NDOS, BTM) in the current or specified directory.
No more searching through long directory listings to find the
program to run!
* MCD - Make and Change Directory
Performs the DOS commands MD and CD in one go. MCD can also
create multiple directories in one go (e.g. MCD \one\two\three will
create the directories \ONE, \one\TWO and \one\two\THREE ).
MCD can also protect directories, so that Delete Directory cannot
delete them.
* FM - Fast Mouse
Reduces the time taken for a program to reset the mouse. FM
can reduce the time taken for some programs to start up by
converting all slow hardware mouse resets to quick software
resets.
* DZ - Divide by Zero
Intercepts any "Divide overflow" errors. If you are having such
problems, then DZ will display the name of the program that has
created the error and allows you to continue the program, rather
than automatically terminating it (which is the default behaviour
of DOS).
* IP - Inkutils Present
Provides a quick and easy way to see at once which TSR programs
from the Inkutils are currently resident in memory.
Plus * INKUTILS - The Inkutils User Guide
A friendly menu driven user guide covering all the Inkutils.
Shareware:
----------
The Inkutils are shareware, but are not limited or crippled in any way,
so that they can be evaluated fully.
