  6. System Requirements:
  7. --------------------
  8.  
  9. The Inkutils run on any PC with DOS 3.30 or later and 128K of available
  10. DOS memory. Approximately 350K of free disk space is required.
  11.  
  12. Installation:
  13. -------------
  14.  
  15. To install the Inkutils, type INSTALL (enter) then follow the on screen
  16. prompts. After successful installation, you will need to add the Inkutils
  17. directory to your PATH statement in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.
  18.  
  19. Once the Inkutils are installed, type INKUTILS to view the user guide.

  21. Description of the Inkutils:

  24. The Inkutils are a suite of 11 DOS utilities:
  25.  
  26.  
  27.     * DEDIT - Description Editor
  28.       A full-screen coloured 4DOS/NDOS file description editor
  29.       which automatically scans the 4DOS/NDOS.INI file for ColorDir
  30.       and other settings, so that DEDIT uses the same configuration
  31.       you're already using. DEDIT can also import file lists into the
  32.       file descriptions - very useful if you regularly download files.
  33.  
  34.     * CC - Cache Control
  35.       A control panel for the SmartDrv (or any compatible) disk cache.
  36.       You can change cache settings just by intuitive point and clicking
  37.       rather than using the less friendly command line switches.
  38.       CC is also DoubleSpace and DriveSpace aware.
  39.  
  40.     * EE - Evaluate Expression
  41.       A calculator than can be used three ways: Command line calculator,
  42.       Desktop calculator or TSR popup calculator. The TSR calculator
  43.       can be loaded in as little as 1.5K of DOS memory.

  45.     * DD - Delete Directory
  46.       Allows a directory (and it's contents) to be deleted. Much more
  47.       friendly than DELTREE. DD displays directory summaries before
  48.       deleting. Allows directories to be 'protected' which stops DD
  49.       from being able to delete them.
  50.  
  51.     * CE - Critical Error
  52.       Replaces the standard "Retry, Ignore, Fail or Abort" message
  53.       with a popup window that gives much more information on the error
  54.       that has occurred. Can be loaded in as little as 900 bytes of
  55.       DOS memory. Compatible with 4DOS and NDOS.
  56.  
  57.     * TM - Text Mode
  58.       Allows various text modes (including any VESA text mode that
  59.       your video card supports) to be selected (TM can display the
  60.       modes that are available on your machine). It can also select
  61.       the largest text mode available on your machine automatically.
  62.       TM allows basic keyboard key repeat rates to be set. Ideal for
  63.       use in AUTOEXEC.BAT.
  64.  
  65.     * LE - List Executables
  66.       Displays only the executable files (EXE, COM, BAT and, if you're
  67.       using 4DOS or NDOS, BTM) in the current or specified directory.
  68.       No more searching through long directory listings to find the
  69.       program to run!

  71.     * MCD - Make and Change Directory
  72.       Performs the DOS commands MD and CD in one go. MCD can also
  73.       create multiple directories in one go (e.g. MCD \one\two\three will
  74.       create the directories \ONE, \one\TWO and \one\two\THREE ).
  75.       MCD can also protect directories, so that Delete Directory cannot
  76.       delete them.

  78.     * FM - Fast Mouse
  79.       Reduces the time taken for a program to reset the mouse. FM
  80.       can reduce the time taken for some programs to start up by
  81.       converting all slow hardware mouse resets to quick software
  82.       resets.

  84.     * DZ - Divide by Zero
  85.       Intercepts any "Divide overflow" errors. If you are having such
  86.       problems, then DZ will display the name of the program that has
  87.       created the error and allows you to continue the program, rather
  88.       than automatically terminating it (which is the default behaviour
  89.       of DOS).

  91.     * IP - Inkutils Present
  92.       Provides a quick and easy way to see at once which TSR programs
  93.       from the Inkutils are currently resident in memory.

  96.       A friendly menu driven user guide covering all the Inkutils.

  103. The Inkutils are shareware, but are not limited or crippled in any way,
  104. so that they can be evaluated fully.
